ED MEDICATION

Viagra vs Cialis side effects. What is common and what is not.

Viagra (sildenafil) and Cialis (tadalafil) are both PDE5 inhibitors and share most side effects: headache, facial flushing, nasal congestion and indigestion. Viagra is more linked to temporary blue-tinted vision. Cialis is more linked to back and muscle pain, and its effects last longer, up to 36 hours versus about 4 to 6. Both are dangerous with nitrates. This page is educational, not medical advice.

Shared side effects

Headache is the most common, followed by flushing, stuffy nose, indigestion and dizziness. They come from blood vessel widening and are usually mild, fading as the drug wears off.

Viagra specifics

Sildenafil also weakly affects an enzyme in the eye, so some men see a blue tint or light sensitivity, especially at higher doses. A heavy meal delays its effect. Effects last roughly 4 to 6 hours.

Cialis specifics

Tadalafil more often causes back pain and muscle aches, usually 12 to 24 hours after a dose. It lasts up to 36 hours and also comes as a low daily dose, which tends to cause milder side effects.

Dangerous combinations

Never combine either drug with nitrates (nitroglycerin, poppers): blood pressure can drop dangerously. Use caution with alpha-blockers and heavy alcohol. Tell your doctor about heart disease or recent stroke.

When to get help

Seek urgent care for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden vision or hearing loss, or chest pain. These are rare but serious.

QUESTIONS

What people ask before signing up.

Which has fewer side effects, Viagra or Cialis?

Overall rates are similar. Cialis causes more back pain, Viagra more vision changes. Daily low dose Cialis is often best tolerated.

How long do Viagra side effects last?

Usually a few hours, as the drug clears in about 4 to 6 hours.

Can you drink alcohol with Cialis?

Small amounts are generally fine, but heavy drinking increases dizziness and low blood pressure risk, and worsens erections.

Do side effects go away with use?

Often yes. Many men notice milder headaches and flushing after several doses.
