SEXUAL FUNCTION
How often should a man ejaculate? There's no magic number, but there is data.
Short answer: there's no medically required frequency. A large Harvard study found men who ejaculated 21 or more times a month had about a 20% lower risk of prostate cancer than men at 4 to 7 times. For fertility, every 1 to 2 days around ovulation works best. Otherwise, whatever feels right for you is normal.
The prostate cancer study
The Health Professionals Follow-up Study tracked about 32,000 US men for 18 years (Rider et al., European Urology, 2016). Men reporting 21 or more ejaculations per month had a roughly 20% lower prostate cancer risk than those reporting 4 to 7. It's observational, so it shows association, not proof of cause, but it's reassuring that frequent ejaculation is not harmful.
Testosterone
Ejaculation doesn't meaningfully lower testosterone over time. One small 2003 study found a temporary peak around day 7 of abstinence, which is the root of many semen retention claims, but levels returned to baseline afterwards. There's no evidence that regular ejaculation causes low testosterone.
Fertility and sperm quality
Sperm count rises with longer abstinence, but sperm quality (motility, DNA integrity) is often better with shorter gaps. For couples trying to conceive, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine suggests sex every 1 to 2 days in the fertile window. Labs typically ask for 2 to 5 days of abstinence before a semen analysis.
Can you ejaculate too much?
Physically, frequent ejaculation isn't harmful. You might notice a longer refractory period, temporary soreness or lower volume. It becomes a problem only if it's compulsive, interferes with life or relationships, or comes with heavy porn use that affects partnered arousal.
What's normal?
National surveys show huge variation, from several times a day to a few times a month. A change from your usual pattern, like a sudden drop in desire, is more informative than the number itself.

QUESTIONS
What people ask before signing up.
How many times a week should a man ejaculate?
There's no required number. Research links around 5 or more times a week with lower prostate cancer risk, but any frequency that feels comfortable is normal.
Does ejaculating lower testosterone?
No. Only short temporary changes have been observed. Long-term levels are not affected.
Is it bad to ejaculate every day?
No, it's not harmful for healthy men. It may lower volume and lengthen recovery time.
How often should you ejaculate when trying to conceive?
Every 1 to 2 days during the fertile window is generally recommended.
